The project was a renovation of the old Wallach Gallery located on the 8th level of the Schermerhorn building into the Burke Center for Japanese Art. The old gallery space was converted to a 60 person classroom, 20 person seminar room, enclosed offices, open workspaces and executive suites.
Transforming the existing gallery space required specific attention to maintaining original details and acoustic treatments for the new program. We built new ceilings and acoustic panels to address these important academic environments while maximizing potential gallery areas. The project also included new HVAC, plumbing, complex electrical work, and state-of-the-art teledata systems.
